Building Integrated Photovoltaics

Budget
line

The project will leverage funds from a variety of sources. The Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) portion of the classroom building project will cost approximately $268,029. This estimate includes the comprehensive costs associated with education and outreach activities. Wisconsin Public Service personnel will devote approximately 1,500 hours toward the management of this project. These labor expenses will not be charged to the portion of the project related to BIPV installation.

Public Service will also conduct a detailed cost study to determine the net cost of installing a BIPV system. The net cost is the incremental cost of a BIPV building component over a standard component, the balance of system components and the additional labor required for the roofers, glaziers and electricians. The BIPV materials will cost approximately $153,653, which only includes equipment and installation.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration - Division of Facilities Development and the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay received $45,000 in cofunding from the State of Wisconsin's Focus on Energy program to fund a portion of the BIPV hardware as well as education and outreach activities. The Focus on Energy cofunding represents 13.4% of the total cost associated with the BIPV portion of the construction project. Public Service also received a $10,000 grant from the Energy Center of Wisconsin's WisconSUN program.

Initially, hardware costs were estimated using photovoltaic costs from the SolarWise® for Schools program installations. Project costs have been refined using written and verbal quotes from manufactures, suppliers, and developers. Estimated project costs are described in the chart below:
